Hey All, Writing to my gigantic audience (ha ha) to let you know I'm calling it quits in the art world. We all struggle for recognition, respect, validation, or (God forbid) a paycheck. You guys are young and full of ambition and the juice you need for this rat race. After giving it all I got, I'm just broke and tired and left with a lot of paintings on a wall collecting dust. Every gallery opening was a bust, low attendance, sales were paltry, competition thick. I'm just very tired and very done. So I'm turning my energies toward finding "real" work, volunteering, maybe moving back north to be a good grandparent. I'll check in once in a whil

I am about to bring a painting out to a funky artist colony-quasi-gallery. I was personally invited to participate, and yet will be charged to submit the painting. The gallery commission of 40% leaves me gagging, and it is questionable whether enough traffic will even come through to see the piece, let alone buy it. This is a tough business separating true supporters of the arts from game-runners. To quote from the movie "Ed Wood":   "You never know who's a windbag and who's got the goods."
